The Ice Path: A Way Forward

local demonstrations, meet each of them personally, and tie them together and with the National Office, into a real, cohesive force.

After a year at that, the National Alliance had grown substantially in dues paying members, heavily due to the team of full time staff members we had assembled working together every day. National Vanguard Books and Resistance Records were successful as separate merchandising outlets, and augmented our recruitment of new members through their continually expanding customer base. Like the ancient Egyptians, then, when the flooding Nile brought such rich topsoil year after year that growing the food to feed their population only took up a small portion of their time, and remembering that idleness bred complacency and inactivity, if not distraction and division, I envisioned further pyramids to be built. Our invited guests were arriving early. Urging the cadre with me to get our people across the street now, I chose to take responsibility for the situation I had created. I pulled out my camera, walked over to the sidewalk the Communists would have to come down to reach us in a few moments, and blocked their path. Well, some of you may have seen the video of what happened next. They swarmed me. I got in a couple of good licks, then one of them charged me, knocking me to the ground. I got up, and they surrounded me. I was too busy swinging to wonder where everybody
